Choose your movie Era

In the 1950’s, movies were suitable for all the family to see. Biblical blockbusters still ruled at the box office but Elvis Presley’s swinging hips and Jayne Mansfield’s hourglass figure were signalling a change in audience tastes.
A new wave of young directors, underground cinema and foreign films shook up the establishment in the 60’s. Hollywood struggled as the old studio system crumbled while The Beatles stormed music charts and cinemas with their films.
Going to the movies in the 70’s was all about sex, sex and more sex. The introduction of the R certificate electrified the Australian film industry with BARRY MCKENZIE and ALVIN PURPLE becoming out first fair dinkum box office hits.
Suburban cinemas and drive-ins would struggle with the introduction of home video and multiplexes but Aussie films like PUBERTY BLUES, BMX BANDITS and DOGS IN SPACE were popular and would live on forever as cult classics.
